David went with a group of Titchie boys on a hike in Malawa (about 1 hour
from here) and while on that hike, he slipped and twisted his leg. The
resulting visit to the Kijabe hospital casualty room (ER) and the x-rays showed
he broke his fibula (the smaller bone in the lower leg). His hiking boots
kept him from breaking his ankle (a far worse injury). He should be fine
in about 4-6 weeks.
David's "broken leg" story:
While at the river I did manage to get down to the water and sit on a rock
with my foot in the cool water, which felt nice. I broke my leg at noon, and
hobbled back to the vehicles, which took about 20 minutes (I’m telling you these
details now, because when I tell this story as an old man, it will probably
include being attacked by lions and fighting them off on one leg and having to
cross 3 gorges and climb a 100 foot cliff, but none of that really happened). It
was about five o’clock when I made it to the hospital and got the x-ray.

This is the gorge we were hiking into when I fell. |

I took this picture just before falling. You can see the loose dirt and gravel. This surface just gave way underneath me. |

After my ill fated hike, we ate lunch and then went to the Malawa river so that the kids could wade. There we encountered Masai herdsmen who were quite enthralled with our cameras. |

Time came for the herdsmen to send their cattle into the river for a drink. Watching the dorm boys swim with the cows was interesting. |
